We woke up early this morning (3:30) and headed to the
airport. Our 2 ½ hour flight on a small turbo prop plane was a little loud, but
good. There were mixed feelings when we arrived in Haiti. The members of our team who
hadn’t been here before were understandably nervous – not knowing exactly what
to expect. The members who were here last year were anxious to see familiar
faces. We rode a tap-tap (a Haitian “taxi”) from the airport to EBAC. Check out
the pictures below!
We made it to EBAC with only a few minor hassles (a few of
our bags were late to the airport, but we have all of our luggage now). It’s
been great to strengthen old relationships and make new friendships throughout
the day! The children are so happy to see us, and we are certainly happy to see them! Kathy and Alice, who have been missionaries here in Haiti for 35 years, kindly served
us lunch and dinner. They are amazing women, to say the least.
Most of these pictures show you the EBAC orphanage. There
have been some significant changes since last year. A few new additions have been
made, and the new playground looks great! There’s a photo from dinner with
Kathy and Alice. And, we included a picture of children playing marbles right
next to the burning trash heap on site. This kind of sight is completely normal
here, and our group is still adjusting to “normal” in Haiti.
Hopefully we’ll upload a similar video soon.
Tomorrow we plan on painting some of the additions, handing
out shoes, and watching one of our movies on the big screen with popcorn and Tampico (Haitian
kool-aid). More pics of our team and the children are coming tomorrow. We
appreciate all your prayers!
What a wonderful Haiti group. The children of the orphanage will be so blessed to have you all there. Keeping you in my prayers daily to be safe & healthy throughout your mission.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Cant believe the new additions! Everything looks great. Wish I was there with you guys. Love the updates!
ReplyDeleteBTW.... what is that tiled area? Is that the new kitchen?
ReplyDeleteYes, Rob. New kitchen with four gas burners. Couldn't believe how nice it looked. Sorry it took so long to reply!
